What is Akarikura Obihachi?

Located in downtown Yamagata City, Akarikura Obihachi is a café-bar created in 2003 by renovating a 90-year-old warehouse. Formerly used as a storage to store important items of the Ojima family, it was revitalized by students of Tohoku University of Art & Design through their urban development activities, and was reborn as a café utilizing the unique space of the storage.

From lunch using local ingredients to private events such as dinners, banquets, live performances, and parties. We invite you to visit our special space where you can recall the nostalgic feelings you have almost forgotten.

Rice beans and cereals, miso soup, salad, three small bowls of assorted dishes, and simmered dishes
This is a set of main dishes and plenty of vegetables colorfully arranged to energize both body and mind.

※Lunch set menu is available until 14:00.

Other dishes include a special curry made with local seasonal ingredients.
※Obihachi light meal set available after 14:00

Enjoy one of a selection of sweets such as chocolate brownie, Yamagata chiffon cake, or whole baked apple, paired with a drink of your choice.

※Ingredients include eggs from Yamagata Prefecture and domestic flour, and the baking powder is aluminum-free.

In addition to coffee and juice, there is a wide selection of Yamagata-grown and organic caffeine-free drinks, such as organic brown rice coffee and dandelion tea produced in Takahata-cho.

In addition to a full a la carte menu, local sake and a wide variety of alcohol are available. We also recommend the “Dinner Set,” which includes three kinds of appetizers.

Banquet Menu

We offer a banquet menu with more than 7 dishes to satisfy both your heart and soul. (*Reservations required from 4 persons)

The menu will be prepared according to your requests while making the most from seasonal ingredients.

In addition, we are available for special occasions such as after-parties and bridal parties.

Do I need to make a reservation?

No reservation is required for lunch and café hours. However, for evening dining, course meals, and banquets, we ask that reservations be made at least two days in advance for preparation purposes.

Do you have private rooms?

Yes, we have a private room on the 2nd floor (available for 4~12 persons). We recommend early reservations, especially during busy times of the year.
We accept reservations at 300 yen per person for 2 hours.

Yes, we have a vegetarian menu. Please contact us in advance.

Can I bring my children?

We welcome guests with children. We have chairs and tableware for children. Baby strollers can also be brought into the restaurant.

Yes, dogs are welcome. Please observe the following rules, as there are general customers in the restaurant.

  • Please bring a rug when using chairs. Terrace seating is also available. Reservations are accepted.
